Insurance

Check what is covered before you drive.

  1. All vehicles from KD Rent-a-Car include basic insurance (CDW) in the rental fee.
  • If damage occurs to our vehicle or the other party’s property due to the driver’s negligence, the driver must bear a deductible of $1,000 (varies by vehicle) + vehicle downtime fees + police report fees.
  • In the event of an accident, the above fees must be paid first. A police report (available one week after the incident date) will determine liability. If the other party is found at fault, we will claim damages from the other driver or their insurance company. Once compensation is received from the other party or their insurer, the fees you paid will be refunded. However, if the other driver is uninsured or unable to compensate, our insurance company will handle the claim, and no refund will be issued for the paid fees.
  • This deductible can be covered by purchasing additional zero-deductible insurance (ZDW), which costs $10–$25 per day (varies by vehicle).
★ Accidents not covered by CDW (basic insurance) or ZDW (full waiver insurance)
  • Unreported accidents (a police case number is mandatory)
  • Accidents caused by running red lights, crossing the center line, or illegal overtaking
  • Single-vehicle accidents; damage to/loss of keys (remotes), wheels, tires, glass, or engine/transmission (including water damage or fuel contamination)
  • Towing, rescue, travel, or fine expenses; damage from natural disasters
  • Damage or accidents occurring on unpaved roads
  • Vehicle theft
  • Single-vehicle accidents
★ Insurance claims are limited to one incident during the rental period.
  1. In case of an accident or damage, you must immediately report it to 911 at the scene to obtain a case number, which is required for insurance processing. (A $30 administrative document fee is the renter’s responsibility.) Failure to bring the damaged vehicle to us as-is will result in denial of insurance coverage, and you will be liable for the full repair costs.
  • ZDW insurance is not available for 1-day rentals.
  1. Rental car drivers must be at least 25 years old with a minimum of 3 years of driving experience.
  2. A valid Korean driver’s license is accepted for insurance coverage.
International licenses, temporary licenses, and non-physical copies (e.g., photos stored on a phone) are not recognized.
  3. The rental car must be returned in the same condition as when received. A cleaning fee of $200 will be charged if excessive contamination—such as cigarette odors from smoking, sand ingress, or saltwater stains (from boarding with wet clothes)—requires detailed cleaning.
  4. Up to 2 additional drivers can be added free of charge with insurance coverage. When adding a driver, their details must be provided to ensure insurance benefits apply in case of an accident.
  5. Failure to present a driver’s license to the police at the time of an accident will be treated as unlicensed driving. Insurance coverage is also denied for accidents involving drunk driving or intentional damage.
  6. If rental car keys are lost or damaged, the renter is liable for costs: $350+ for standard keys and $500+ for electronic keys. Additionally, fees apply if staff assistance is requested due to keys being locked inside the vehicle or difficulty replacing a flat tire ( $50 for Tumon area, $100 for northern/southern regions).
  7. All fines, penalties, and towing fees incurred during the rental period are the renter’s responsibility (a $30 processing fee applies for payment of fines and penalties).

Terms of use

Company terms you should review before booking.

Terms and Conditions for Rental Car Use

Chapter 1 General Provisions

Article 1 (Application of Terms)
  1. The Company shall rent vehicles (hereinafter referred to as "rental cars") to the renter in accordance with these terms, and the renter shall rent them. Matters not specified in these terms shall be governed by the rules of Article 39, applicable laws and regulations, or general customs.
  2. The Company may agree to special terms to the extent that they do not conflict with the purpose of these terms and rules, applicable laws and regulations, administrative notices, or general customs. In case of special terms, such terms shall take precedence over these general terms.

Chapter 2 Agreement

Article 2 (Reservation Application)
  1. When renting a car, the renter may submit a reservation by agreeing to these terms, separately specified fare lists, etc., through methods such as in-person visits, phone calls, the internet, or via travel agencies contracted by the Company to handle reservations on its behalf. The reservation must specify details including: vehicle class, rental start date and time, rental location, rental period, return location, driver information, need for optional items (e.g., child seats, navigation systems), and other rental conditions (hereinafter referred to as "rental conditions").
  2. When receiving a reservation, the Company shall, in principle, honor it using its own rental cars, except in cases where the Company provides rental cars through a third-party agent (including cases where the Company rents and delivers vehicles for which it has received payment from the agent under Article 35, Paragraph 1). In such cases, the renter shall pay a reservation fee as specified, unless otherwise approved by the Company.
  3. For online reservations, if the Company’s confirmation email cannot be delivered to the customer’s provided address, the reservation shall be deemed invalid.
Article 3 (Reservation Changes)
  1. The renter may change the rental conditions specified in Article 2, Paragraph 1 without prior approval from the Company, provided that if the reservation was made through a travel agency or other agent contracted by the Company, changes may only be requested through that agent’s business location.
Article 4 (Reservation Cancellations, etc.)
  1. The renter may cancel a reservation in the manner specified separately.
  2. If the renter fails to initiate the rental agreement process more than 1 hour after the scheduled start time due to their own reasons, the reservation shall be deemed canceled.
  3. In the cases specified in Paragraphs 1 and 2, the renter shall pay a cancellation fee as specified. If the Company has received a reservation deposit, the cancellation fee shall be deducted from this deposit.
  4. If the Company cancels a reservation or fails to conclude a rental agreement due to its own reasons, the Company shall refund any received reservation deposit.
  5. If a rental agreement cannot be concluded due to reasons beyond the control of both parties (e.g., accidents, theft, unauthorized use, recalls, natural disasters), the reservation shall be canceled, and the Company shall refund any received reservation fee.
Article 5 (Alternative Rental Cars)
  1. If the Company cannot provide the reserved vehicle class, it may offer an alternative vehicle (hereinafter referred to as "alternative rental car").
  2. If the renter accepts the alternative, the Company shall provide it under the same rental conditions (except for vehicle class). If the alternative’s rental fee is higher than the reserved vehicle, the reserved fee shall apply; if lower, the alternative’s fee shall apply.
  3. The renter may refuse the alternative and cancel the reservation.
  4. If the Company cannot provide the reserved vehicle due to its own fault, the cancellation shall be governed by Article 4, Paragraph 4, and the Company shall refund the reservation deposit.
  5. If the Company cannot provide the reserved vehicle due to reasons not attributable to it, the cancellation shall be governed by Article 4, Paragraph 5, and the Company shall refund the reservation deposit.
Article 6 (Disclaimers)
  1. Neither the Company nor the renter shall make any claims against each other for canceled reservations or failed rental agreements, except as specified in Articles 4 and 5.
  2. The renter shall not hold the Company liable for damages arising from the Company’s inability to provide a rental car or alternative due to natural disasters or other force majeure. The Company shall notify the renter immediately in such cases.
Article 7 (Reservation Agents)
  1. The renter may make reservations through travel agencies, partner companies, or other agents (hereinafter referred to as "agents") authorized by the Company to handle reservations.
  2. If a reservation is made through an agent, changes or cancellations may only be requested through that agent’s business location.

Chapter 3 Rental

Article 8 (Conclusion of Rental Agreement)
  1. The renter and the Company shall conclude a rental agreement by specifying the rental conditions (Article 2, Paragraph 1) and the Company’s rental terms (including fares). This shall not apply if no vehicles are available or if the renter/driver falls under any of the categories in Article 9, Paragraphs 1 or 2.
  2. Upon concluding the agreement, the renter shall pay the rental fee as specified in Article 11, Paragraph 1.
  3. Pursuant to supervisory authority guidelines, the Company shall record the driver’s name, address, license type, and license number on the rental certificate (or attach a copy of the license). The renter must present the driver’s license (or a copy) at the time of agreement—if the renter is the driver, their own license; if not, the designated driver’s license.
  4. The Company may require the renter/driver to submit identification documents (and copies) to verify identity.
  5. The Company may request contact information (e.g., mobile phone number) for the renter/driver during the rental period.

  • A vehicle deposit of $200 may be required when renting a car.
  1. Driver Eligibility: Drivers must be at least 25 years old, with a driver’s license held for 3+ years and 3+ years of driving experience. If an accident is caused by a driver who does not meet these requirements, insurance benefits will not apply.
  2. Exclusions from Insurance Coverage:
    • Single-vehicle accidents
    • Damage to glass, tires, wheels, engine, transmission, lost car keys
    • Damage from natural disasters
    • Damage to soft tops, interior parts, or vehicle-attached accessories
    • Vehicle theft
    • Accidents caused by individuals not specified in the rental agreement
    • Accidents occurring while driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or narcotics
    • Accidents occurring off-road (e.g., Ritidian, Tanguisson Beach, jungles, beach areas, etc.)
  3. The renter must report all accidents to KD immediately. For both ZDW and CDW insurance, coverage will not apply if the vehicle is returned without a police accident report. Additionally, the renter must submit all costs, evidence, and documents requested by us for accident processing (including a $30 accident report fee).
  4. Insurance Coverage for Accidents: Insurance applies to only one accident (i.e., only the first reported accident during the rental period is covered). If the vehicle is returned early due to damage or breakdown caused by the driver’s negligence, no replacement vehicle will be provided, and the contract will be terminated. Repairs for accidents must be conducted exclusively at repair shops designated by our company.
  5. Loss or Damage to Vehicle Keys: A fee of $350+ for standard keys or $500+ for smart keys will be charged, plus a service call fee of $50–$100.
  6. Service Calls During Rental: If a staff visit is required due to issues such as lockouts, lost keys, flat tires, or dead batteries, a service fee will apply ($50 for Tumon area, $100 for northern/southern regions). Towing and rescue costs will be borne by the renter.
  7. The renter is responsible for all traffic violations, parking fines, penalties, and towing fees incurred during the rental period.
  8. The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as when received. A detailed cleaning fee of $200+ will be charged if excessive contamination—such as sand ingress, cigarette odors, stained seats, or returns in a wet state—requires deep cleaning.
  9. KD Rent-a-Car is not liable for any lost items after the vehicle is returned.
